Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions and answers about the Saturn OMNI 3000 antenna...
HOW BIG IS THE SATURN OMNI 3000 ANTENNA?
Physically, the Saturn OMNI 3000 is 480mm in diameter with a 100mm stainless steel stem.
It weighs 1.85kg
IS THE SATURN OMNI 3000 BETTER THAN THE WINEGARD ANTENNA?
There will always be conflicting reports on ANY antenna for caravan or boat or even the house. So I cannot give you a guarantee that the Saturn antenna will ALWAYS outperform the horizontal Winegard. In some areas, the reception will be the same. BUT, we would NOT be selling the Winegard conversion kit with the Saturn Antenna for nearly 20 years if the Saturn did NOT outperform the Winegard in most areas. Consider these facts when comparing the horizontal Winegard and the Saturn:
-
45% of transmitters send the TV reception in a vertical pattern (needs a vertical antenna) – Saturn has a vertical antenna – the horizontal Winegard does NOT.
-
87% of transmitters use the UHF frequency for the TV reception – Saturn has a UHF and a VHF antenna – Winegard has a VHF antenna ONLY.
-
The digital TV reception is more particular about having everything perfect. The closer to the transmitter you are the less the need to have the ‘perfect’ antenna. The more challenges in the way (hills, distance, buildings) the greater the need to have the best antenna – UHF, VHF, vertical, horizontal.
Saturn – UHF, VHF, vertical, horizontal
Winegard – VHF, horizontal
CAN THE SATURN OMNI 3000 REPLACE MY WINEGARD ANTENNA?
Yes, you can adapt the Saturn OMNI 3000 to the Winegard with our Conversion Kit. Nothing changes inside the van, all you need to do is take the Winegard antenna head off and put our Saturn Antenna on. It takes around 1/2hr to install and comes with easy to read instructions, so if you're a little handy then you should be able to install it yourself.
DO SATURN ANTENNAS HAVE AN AMPLIFIER?
Yes, all of our antennas have the correct-sized amplifier for country reception - 35dB.
Added to that fact is the other feature of the Saturn Antenna amplifier - the correct frequency range that is being boosted.
When the government changed to digital TV reception, they reduced the range of TV frequency and sold the upper frequencies to the telephone companies.
And how does that affect the traveller? Any antenna that is boosting the 'old' frequency will create problems with TV reception when it comes within 1km of a new phone tower.
All Saturn Antennas manufactured after December 2014 have the proper amplifier that boosts ONLY TV frequencies. The Saturn Antenna is the only TV antenna that has the modern, up-to-date amplifier.
ARE SATURN ANTENNAS A DIGITAL ANTENNA?
Yes, our Saturn TV antennas are all optimized for digital reception since 2001,
and updated with digital LTE (Mobile 4/5g) filtering since 2015.
The all Australian built-in amplifier is manufactured by GME Kingray in Sydney.
